University transfer

A university transfer is for those who are already enrolled at another university in Denmark and who would like to transfer to the same programme at AU.

How to apply depends on whether you are a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree student and on how much of the degree programme you have already completed. Select the scenario below that applies to you and see how you should apply.

I am a Bachelor’s degree student and have not yet been awarded 60 ECTS

If you are a Bachelor’s degree student and have not yet gained 60 ECTS, the prerequisites for transferring to AU from another university are:

  • That you are enrolled in the same programme at another university in Denmark
  • That you have not passed what corresponds to the entire first academic year of the programme you wish to transfer to at AU before the start of the semester
  • That you meet the current admission requirements for the programme at AU
  • That you are not due to be withdrawn from your current university

If you are due to be withdrawn from your current university, you must instead apply for re-admission

How to apply

You must apply through www.optagelse.dk

When you apply, you must upload the following:

Application deadlines

The application deadline is 15 March if you wish to apply for quota 2 and 5 July if you wish to apply for quota 1.

When will you get a response?

You will receive a response to your application on 28 July.

Questions and contact information

If you have any questions about applying for a university transfer, you are very welcome to write to optagelse@au.dk.

I am a Master’s degree student and have not yet been awarded 60 ECTS

If you are a Master’s degree student and have not yet gained 60 ECTS, you should not apply for a university transfer. You should instead apply for ordinary admission in the same way you applied for your current programme: through DANS.

If you are due to be withdrawn from your current university, you must instead apply for re-admission.

If you are admitted to the degree programme, AU will automatically assess whether you can get a credit transfer for some of the courses you have already completed in your current programme.

How to apply

You must apply through the application system and select the degree programme you wish to apply for.

When you apply, you must upload the following:

  • An academic transcript with all examination attempts (transcript RA052U)
  • Confirmation of enrolment
  • Academic regulations or course descriptions of all courses
  • Exam certificate for your upper-secondary school exam
  • Documentation that you meet the language requirements, for example, an upper-secondary school certificate
  • Documentation that you have passed a qualifying Bachelor’s degree programme

Application deadlines

For degree programmes that start in August/September, the application deadline is 1 March.

For degree programmes that start in January/February, the application deadline is 15 October

When will I get a response?

You will receive a response to your application on 10 July

Questions and contact information

If you have any questions about applying for a university transfer, you are very welcome to write to indskriv@au.dk.

I am a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree student and I have passed all courses in the first academic year

The prerequisites for transferring to AU from another university are:

  • That you are enrolled in the same programme at another university in Denmark
  • That you have passed what corresponds to the entire first academic year of the programme you wish to transfer to at AU before the start of the semester
  • That you meet the current admission requirements for the programme at AU
  • That there are empty places in the programme at the you wish to transfer to
  • That you are not due to be withdrawn from your current university

Are you unsure whether you have passed all courses in the first academic year?

Perhaps you are unsure whether what you have passed corresponds to the first academic year. For example, the degree programme at Aarhus University might be structured differently from your current programme.

If you are unsure whether you can get a credit transfer for the entire first academic year, we recommend that you apply for both a university transfer and for ordinary admission to the new programme. It is not a problem to apply for both things at the same time.

How to apply

To apply for a transfer, please find the type of programme called “Change of programme/transfer – Bachelor’s degree programmes/Master’s degree programmes” in the application system. Then find the programme you wish to transfer to.

When you apply, you must upload the following:

  • An academic transcript with all examination attempts (transcript RA052U)
  • Confirmation of enrolment
  • Academic regulations or course descriptions of all courses
  • Exam certificate for your upper-secondary school exam
  • Documentation that you meet language requirements, for example, an upper-secondary school certificate
  • Documentation that you have passed a qualifying Bachelor’s degree programme

Application deadlines

For degree programmes that start in August/September, the application deadline is 1 March.

For degree programmes that start in January/February, the application deadline is 15 October

When will I get a response?

Applications are assessed on an ongoing basis. It can take a long time to process applications, and some applicants will only receive a response in August (for summer admissions) / January (for winter admissions).
