Master's degree reform 2028

The Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science has introduced a reform of the master’s degree programmes in Denmark. At Aarhus University we are working hard on the implementation of the reform and to ensure that we continue to offer the best possible programmes and opportunities to all of our students.

Consequences for Master’s degree programmes at AU

At the moment close to all Master’s degree programmes at Aarhus University are two years in duration (120 ECTS). But from 2028 a number of programmes will be changed to either shorter programmes or programmes for working professionals, where you combine studying with working.

3 main types of Master’s degree programmes offered from 2028

  • Full time 120 ECTS programes

  • Full time 75 ECTS programmes

  • Various forms of work-integrated Master’s programmes. (1 or 2 years)

The university is currently working on developing the exact content and structure of the new types of Master’s degree programmes. Once the new programmes have been approved, you will be able to read more at masters.au.dk. We expect information will become available sometime before July 2025.

Every October you will be able to find a complete overview of all master’s degree programmes offered for the following intake in August/September.
