Introduction

The MSc in Business Administration - Business Psychology is fundamentally a business administration programme enriched with strong psychological components. Building on the solid foundation of business knowledge from your bachelor’s degree, this programme offers a specialised focus on the intersection of business and psychology. You will develop an interdisciplinary skill set that integrates management, economics, and psychology, preparing you to address the critical challenges in HR and organisational development. Companies and organisations are actively seeking graduates with this unique combination of skills, recognising the significant impact of human behaviour on performance, decision-making, and workplace well-being.

Deep Psychological Understanding of Modern Business

In today’s highly competitive and continuously evolving business environment, organisations face complex challenges that require collaboration across diverse skill sets, functions, and organisations. With team-based work and digital workplaces now the norm, and responsibilities increasingly delegated, businesses must continuously adapt to significant changes. In this context, a profound understanding of human behaviour and psychology is essential for sustaining performance, promoting employee health and well-being, driving effective organisational change, and ensuring clear communication both internally and externally.  Additionally, organisations must design strategies to alter behaviour, anticipate the consequences of delegated responsibilities, and adapt to dynamic environments.

Programme Structure and Progression

The Master’s degree in Business Psychology combines rigorous theoretical knowledge with practical skills to address the challenges of modern organisations. The progression of the programme ensures that you move from conceptual understanding to strategic application to prepare you for real-world challenges:

  • 1st semester: You will build a strong theoretical foundation through three prerequisite courses: Judgment and Decision-Making, Organisational Theory, and Workplace Psychology. These courses provide essential concepts and frameworks needed to understand the psychological dynamics within business settings.
  • 2nd semester: You will focus on applying and expanding your foundational knowledge through three interrelated courses: Business Psychology Methods, Organisational Interventions, and Communication Psychology. These courses deepen your understanding of business psychology while emphasising the practical application of its principles.
  • 3rd semester: You can choose elective courses within your specific area of interest. Options include elective courses at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus Summer University, or partner universities abroad. You can also gain hands-on experience through project-based internship programmes in Denmark or abroad.
  • 4th semester: You will dedicate this final semester to your master’s thesis, allowing you to explore a topic of your choice within business psychology, creating a distinct platform on which to build your future career.

If you have an international educational background, you must meet both the general admission requirement and the specific admission requirements:

You must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent that is comparable to a Danish bachelor's degree in both level and duration (180 ECTS).

You can be admitted to the master's programme if the university assesses that your education has a level, scope, and content that corresponds to the academic requirements specified below.

  • Bachelor's degree programme in Business Administration from Aarhus University  

Please note that you must apply for admission to the Master's degree programme within three years of completing your Bachelor's degree programme.

3. Direct admission

Certain Bachelor's degree programmes from Aarhus University and various other Danish Universities have been determined to meet the admission requirements to this Master's degree programme in Business Administration - Business Psychology:

  • Bachelor's degree programme in Business Administration with supplementary subject from Aarhus University 
  • Bachelor's degree programme in Economics and Business Administration, (HA – generel Erhvervsøkonomi) from the curriculum 2017 onwards, from Aarhus University* 
  • Bachelor's degree programme in Economics and Business Administration, (HA – generel Erhvervsøkonomi from either Copenhagen Business School, University of Southern Denmark, Aalborg University or Roskilde University*


*Please note that if your BSc in Economics and Business Administration from Aarhus University or another Danish educational institution was completed before the year 2010, it will be assessed in connection with the processing of your application whether you meet the admission requirements described in the section "Admission with other education".

Limited intake and selection criteria

This master's degree programme has a limited intake. 

Because of the limited intake all qualified applicants will be prioritised according to a set of selection critieria (see below). 

Meeting the admission requirements does not automatically ensure your offer of admission. Only if you have a specific bachelor's degree from Aarhus University with a so-called 'legal right of admission' will you be guaranteed an offer of admission to this master's degree programme.


Selection criteria

If there are more qualified applicants than available student places, the selection will be based on the following criteria (each criterion counts for 1/3): 

  1. Grades from the qualifying degree 

  2. Grades achieved in relevant subject fields:

    • Management and organisational theory 

    • Methods

  3. Relevant subject fields (measured in ECTS). In this assessment, ECTS credits that are a part of the admission requirements described under ‘Other qualifying degrees’ are not included.  

    • Management and organisational theory 

    • Methods

* The relevant subject fields are evaluated based on the following point system: 1 point per additional ECTS within the relevant field. You can earn a maximum of 15 points in this criterion. Example: If you have 10 ECTS in a relevant field where the requirement is 7.5 ECTS, you will receive 2.5 points.

In order to be admitted to this programme you must meet the university's english language requirements

Students with bachelor's degree from Aarhus University with a so-called 'Legal right of admission' are exempt from the English language requirement.

Programme structure

The degree programme consists of two semesters in the first year which cover the compulsory courses in the programme specialisation and two semesters in the last year which are reserved for the student's own specialisation.

In the third semester you can choose elective courses within your areas of interest. The courses can either be taken at Aarhus BSS during the semester, at the Summer University or at one of our more than 300 partner universities abroad. You can also participate in project-based internship programmes either in Denmark or abroad.

The fourth semester is devoted to the final thesis. You may choose the topic of the thesis freely and so get a chance to concentrate on and specialise in a specific field of interest. The thesis may be written in collaboration with another student or it may be the result of your individual effort.
